Introducing our NEW teammates: Sam Bennett

Team News | 18.10.2013

Our new teammate from Ireland just recently turned 23-years old. Sam Bennett is already a two-time national under-23 champion and has also been able to take several wins as a junior, among others his title as a junior points-race champion on the track. Bennett started his career as a Stagiaire at team Française des Jeux, before joining Team Team An Post - Sean Kelly, later named An Post – Chain Reaction, where he stayed for three years. He and Irish cycling hero Sean Kelly share the same hometown, Kelly saw his talent and supported him in his career from early on.

Sam Bennett showed that he is not only a fast sprinter, but also one with climbing abilities, when he celebrated his biggest success yet, winning stage five of the Tour of Britain 2013. On the eighth stage he proved himself to be a strong sprinter, when he came second only to world-class sprinter Mark Cavendish.

Enrico Poitschke, Sport Director of NetApp-Endura is convinced of Sam Bennett's talent. “We believe that Sam shows great potential when it comes to sprinting which he has not even fully exhausted yet. He continuously progressed from his junior years onwards, which convinced us to sign him after personal talks with him. He will take part in our line-up of sprinters and will take responsibility in races that suit him. In the 2014 season, we of course hope to attain another wildcard invitation to the big WoldTour races. If Sam manages to stay focused, prepares well and shows a good form, taking part in an eventual Grand Tour would be possible.”
