A good atmosphere inside Team NetApp-Endura after a very undulating stage
On today’s stage, riders had to overcome an extremely undulating profile to arrive at the finish in Fisterra, the westernmost point on the Iberian Peninsula. A category-three mountain classification 37 kilometres before the finish line proved particularly challenging: the Mirador de Ézaro with inclines of as much as 29%.
Bartosz Huzarski managed to cross the finish line in 21st place simultaneously with the first group. Leopold König followed in the next group just six seconds behind the day’s winner Daniel Moreno (Katusha). Huzarski moved up from 12th to 11th place overall, while Leopold König dropped two positions and is now in 13th place in the general classification.
Sport Director Enrico Poitschke commented: “Today’s stage was once again characterized by a lot of wind and a difficult profile. We did quite well with the mountain classification 37 kilometres before the finish line and were able to arrive within the first group. The team is in great spirits, our riders worked extremely well together and we are very satisfied with our performance so far. Our team has a wide array of talents and we will try to ride to good results on different types of terrain over the next few days.”
The course for the fourth stage of the Vuelta did not allow riders to rest for even a moment. There was hardly a flat section, then came the Mirador de Ézaro, a category-three mountain classification on very rough asphalt that had to be attacked after already riding 150 kilometres. The last five breakaway riders lost their lead when the incline exceeded the 20% mark. After a few more unsuccessful attacks, the peloton essentially rode the last 16 kilometres to the finish line together. The route to the finish line at the very end of Galicia was a steady uphill climb and was very prone to wind. On the last three kilometres, Juan Antonio Flecha (Vacansoleil-DCM) attacked but was passed by Daniel Moreno (Katusha) and Fabian Cancellara (Radioshack-Leopard), who decided the stage victory among themselves.
